1. Camera Access and Usage
Permission Required: Camera
Our application requires access to your device's camera to function. This access is strictly limited to the following purpose:
- Scanning: To capture and decode QR codes and barcodes (e.g., EAN-13, UPC-12, Code-128) in real-time.
Privacy Guarantee: All image processing for barcode recognition is performed locally on your device. We do not record, stream, or upload the camera feed to any external server. The camera is only active when you are using the scanning feature.
2. Contact List Access
Permission Required: Contacts (Read/Write)
We respect the sanctity of your address book. We request permission to access your contacts solely for the following specific feature:
- Saving VCards: When you scan a QR code containing contact information (VCard/MeCard), the app allows you to save this new contact directly to your phone's address book.
We do not read, upload, sync, or analyze your existing contact list. The permission is used strictly to write new data when you instruct the app to do so.
3. Data Collection and Database Contribution
a. General Usage
By default, the Barcode App operates offline. We do not automatically collect usage statistics, location data, or personal identifiers.
b. Voluntary Data Contribution (Crowdsourcing)
The app includes a feature that allows users to improve our global barcode database. If you scan a product barcode that is not recognized in our system, you may be given the option to manually add the item details (e.g., Product Name, Category).
- What is sent: If you choose to use this feature, the Barcode Number and the Product Name you entered are sent to our database.
- Consent: This action is 100% voluntary. No data is uploaded unless you explicitly tap the "Add Item" or "Submit" button.
4. Storage and Sharing
- Local Storage: Scanned history and generated QR codes are stored locally on your device. You have full control to clear this history at any time via the app settings.
- Sharing: If you use the "Share" feature to send a generated QR code or scanned content to another person or app, that data is handled by the third-party app you selected (e.g., WhatsApp, Email, Social Media) and is subject to their respective privacy policies.
5. Media and File Access
To save the QR codes or Barcodes you create to your device's gallery, the app may require permission to write to your device's storage. This permission is used solely to save the image file you created.
6. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect the integrity of the application. Since most data processing occurs locally, your data remains secure within your physical device.
7. Children’s Privacy
Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.
